Why do saved images come out as WebP?
Many big websites now serve pictures as WebP, Google’s image format, because it’s smaller than JPG and PNG and pages load faster. So when you save an image from a website, you often get a .webp file. Browsers open it, but many design tools, office apps, older photo viewers and upload forms still don’t.
WebP to PNG: when it’s the right choice
Choose PNG when the image has a transparent background (logos, icons, stickers, product cut-outs), contains text or sharp lines, or will be edited again. PNG is lossless, so the conversion doesn’t add any blur or artifacts. For ordinary photos, JPG gives a much smaller file; switch the format above the drop zone.
