Where JXL files come from
JPEG XL (.jxl) is the newest member of the JPEG family. Some photo editors, image sites and camera apps now save or serve it, because the files are smaller than JPG at the same quality. It’s great for storage, but plenty of the places you’d want to use a photo, like upload forms, messaging apps, office documents and older computers, only take JPG.
Getting the best JPG
Leave quality at 92% for photos you’ll share. Use 100% for printing or images you’ll edit again. If the image has transparency, text or sharp edges, the JXL to PNG converter keeps it pixel-perfect.
Keep the originals
JPEG XL holds more detail per byte than JPG, and HDR JXL photos carry more color than a JPG can. Keep your .jxl files as the master copies and convert copies when you need to share them.
